TRAGIC
Although still a couple years shy of thirty, Tragic (Randall Rojas) has beenthrough more than his share of ups and downs. Throughout his ongoing journeyin this game we call life, Tragic has managed to survive growing up in abroken home, multiple run- ins with the law, and fatherhood with one commontheme-MUSIC. Using real-life as his main source of inspiration, he continuesto use Hip Hop as an outlet to survive and communicate today.
Born in the late seventies Tragic grew up in Tacoma Park Maryland, a suburb ofWashington D.C. Growing up in a Hispanic home, he was unable to speak Englishuntil he started school. Trying to learn a new language in school combinedwith an unbalanced home life, made for some rough childhood years. His fatherstruggled with alcohol abuse and was often times physically abusive to hismother. One of Tragic’s most vivid childhood memories is of his father gettingseverely drunk, firing a shotgun at of an upstairs bedroom window, and in turnbeing hauled off by the local police after a tense standoff. To make mattersworse, he, his mother, and sister bounced around from shelter to shelterbefore settling in a permanent home. Not surprisingly he began to act out bygetting in fights at school and stealing from stores. This led to him to writehis first verse at the age of eleven-a short rhyme about stealing candy fromthe local 7-11. The Hip Hop seed had already been planted.High school saw the teenager enter JFK High where he had short stints wrestingand playing football. However, he soon traded these activities for lessproductive ones. Spending time tagging with his group the Krylon Art Syles, aka Kicking Ass Spics, he began to use drugs and get into more trouble. Thesetroubles led to his mother throwing him out of the house for good. Lost andtroubled he joined the King Browns, a local gang, where juvenile hall tripswhere not uncommon. It was during these stints in juvenile hall where hereally began to take his rapping skills to a higher level. As his skills beganto grow, so did his troubles with the law. Facing some serious trouble Tragichopped a bus to New Orleans in 1996 and never looked back.Shortly after arriving he met his first baby mama who would give birth to adaughter and son. Struggling to support a new family, he continued to strugglewith drug use and run-ins with the law. During this time he hooked up withScratch Pro Entertainment, a local Hip Hop click who shared his love formaking music. Around this time that he began work on what would be his firstalbum. However, lack of resources and day to day problems prevented theproject from ever getting off the ground.Looking to change his ways and grow up a little bit, Tragic began to focus onother dreams, such as owning his own home and business. The next few yearswere not glamorous, but did see him grind his way out of many holes throughhard work and determination. While he temporarily abandoned his dream ofmaking it as a MC, he did manage to buy a home one month before HurricaneKatrina. Ironically, his first major success in life was wiped out by thehurricane. Undeterred, Tragic immediately put his focus into his next dreamand started his own steel fabrication company. Having now achieved two majordreams, he knew the time was right to conquer one more.In 2006 Tragic set out to finish some unfinished business. He began productionon his own album. With the help of friends and family, he quickly got to work.Ironwork Entertainment, his label, was born and his first album S.O.O.N. wascompleted early in 2007. What’s next for Tragic? Fame? Fortune? The future maybe uncertain, but one thing’s for sure he’s here to stay.
